Soichiro Honda was a racer, a
businessman, a manufacturer.
But most of all he was a dreamer.
Soichiro Honda
A man and his dream: |
 |
He dreamed of a better way of making piston
rings, founded a small company and began
production.
He dreamed of giving people everywhere an
economical form of transportation, and began
producing small motorcycles, including one built
in 1949 called the D-Type Dream. |
 |
He dreamed of building high-performance
motorcycles, too, and of taking them racing. So
his company built bigger and faster machines,
two-, four-, five- and six-cylinder racebikes,
and won the Isle of Man.
He dreamed of sharing his new motorcycles with
the world, and in 1959 he opened American Honda
Motor Company in California. |
 |
He dreamed of building his motorcycles in the
countries where they would be ridden, and opened
Honda of America Manufacturing in 1979.
He dreamed of changing the way people looked at
motorcycles, and gave us machines that were fun
to ride.
He dreamed of building touring bikes,
and created a whole new category with
the first Gold Wing.® |
But somewhere along the line, things began to
change. Because other people began to dream
about Hondas, too. They wrote songs about them,
and started clubs that grew to thousands of
members.
Soichiro Honda's dreams changed the world of
motorcycling, and touched our lives. Fifty years
after he founded the company bearing his name,
we take a moment to look back at his dreams and
his vision. And to say thank you, Mr. Honda, for
the dream.

2008 CRF 450R
Motocross is war, and there's only one open-class
bike that's
truly battle ready: The CRF®450R. So how
do you improve a machine that's already Cycle
World's MX Bike of the Year? For 2008 it gets the
Honda Progressive Steering Damper. Races are won in
the turns, and the Honda Progressive Steering Damper
reduces rider effort here and helps hold your line.
New triple clamps with a 22mm offset put more weight
on the front wheel and work in sync with new damper
for greater cornering precision. And there are
plenty of engine updates too, including new
gear-position-sensitive ignition mapping and a new
tapered head pipe—this new motor pulls so strong it
just may put aftermarket engine builders out
of business! |

2008 TRX 400EX
The TRX®400EX has always been an ATV that really
delivers
when it comes to power and handling. But for 2008,
its totally redesigned bodywork matches its
legendary performance and provides superior splash
protection. The new seat is wider in the back and
narrower in the front to improve ergonomics. And to
make it easier to ride, it offers a lighter
clutch-pull and improved suspension settings. The
TRX is still powered by the same bulletproof 397cc
engine, mounted in a rugged steel frame, and
features a one-piece cast-aluminum swing-arm, radial
tires and triple disc brakes. All that and more
helps give you the performance you need to take on
your favorite ride. |

2008 CRF 450X
Super light, incredibly powerful, and with the
all-important electric starter, the CRF450X started
winning just about every Baja event it entered, and
has never looked back. But this year we're ready to
announce some really big changes, and the most
important has to be the Honda Progressive Steering
Damper (HPSD). Along with new 22mm offset triple
clamps for the fork, you'll have much better feel in
the corners and when you're talking about a
1000-mile race and not just a 30-minute moto, that
adds up to a huge difference. And there are plenty
of other updates too, like our new Works brake
rotors. When you're on a new CRF450X, you know
you're riding the latest version of a powersports
legend. |

2008 CBR 600RR
We think our CBR600RR is the best on the
planet. But don't take our word for it.
It's dominated the class in almost every
2007 shootout, and has collected more
"bike of the year" honors than we can
count. And its success on the racetrack
has been equally impressive, winning the
AMA Formula Xtreme championship three
years in a row. Look closely and you can
see its MotoGP DNA everywhere: Unit
Pro-Link® Rear Suspension, Honda
Electronic Steering Damper, center-up
exhaust system and centrally located
fuel tank. Plus you get a 15,000 rpm
redline, Dual Stage Fuel Injection, HMAS-inverted
front fork, radial-mount front brake
calipers and radial actuated master
cylinder. With the new
paint/graphic for 08 makes it the
hottest 600 on the track/street. |

2008 ST1300/ST1300 ABS
The ST1300™ was created for riders who love
performance as much as they love a day in the
saddle. Touring features include full-coverage
bodywork, three-way adjustable rider's seat, large
detachable saddlebags and an electric, push-button
adjustable windscreen.
Performance features include a powerful,
liquid-cooled 1261cc V-4 engine with Programmed Fuel
Injection in an aluminum frame that combines
excellent handling and superb riding comfort. Linked
braking is standard, and there's even an optional
Anti-lock Braking System available. It's the best
sport-touring bike on the road. |

|
 |
2008 Interceptor/Interceptor ABS
The Interceptor® continues its reign at
the forefront of sport touring. Its
unique VTEC powerplant is like getting
two engines in one bike. At lower engine
speeds, each cylinder runs on two valves
to increase low-end and mid-range
torque. But at 6400 rpm, you shift into
four-valve mode.
And that's only the beginning of its
technological wizardry. Also included
are programmed fuel injection, Pro Arm®
and Pro-Link® Rear Suspension, our Honda
Linked Braking System™ (LBS™) and an
available ABS model. |
